The 2024 Tainan Arts Festival coincides with Tainan 400. The inspiration for the curatorial theme comes from the poem "Harboring Dreams for Tomorrow," written by Le Moulin Poetry Society from Tainan in the 1930s. It express the three main focus of this festival: historical depth, world companionship, and future generations.
Tainan represents the origin of Taiwan. The festival curation re-explores history through the creations of artists, gives new meaning to known events, and unearths unknown historical details. Many of the commissioned programs this year emphasize the care for the specific history and Taiwan's current situation.
Tainan 400 originated from Fort Zeelandia built by the Dutch East India Company in 1624. This also means that Tainan’s cultural heritage includes two-way cross-cultural exchanges, both the input of foreign culture and the export of Taiwanese culture, and even fusion dialogue. In this arts festival, there are several programs that stress on the exchange between Tainan and the world.
Not only does it care about the past, this year's Tainan Arts festival also pays more attention to Tainan's future in the next 400 years. Specifically, theater for the young audiences will become the new focus of the Tainan Arts Festival in the future. In addition to related domestic and foreign performances, we have also specially arranged exclusive ticket discounts, hoping to attract more young people to participate.
Let us start from where we are and meet the world.
